Why Specsy exists

Most software people use every day is rented, not owned. Subscription fees stack up every month. Data lives on somebody else's server. The app you rely on can change its pricing, shut down, or get acquired by a company that mismanages your information, and you have no say.

Specsy is a marketplace for build-it-yourself app specs. Each spec is a detailed blueprint: buy it once, paste it into Claude Code, and walk away with a working app that runs on your own machine. No subscriptions. No cloud accounts. No data leaving your laptop.

Every spec on Specsy is reviewed by a human before it goes live. Not just for safety, though that matters. For whether it actually works. If the spec doesn't build cleanly or produce a useful app, it doesn't go up.

Specsy is built for the people software has historically ignored: women, older adults, neurodivergent people, anyone who's been told this isn't for them. It is.

The donation commitment

Specsy donates 10% of every sale to organizations that protect digital rights and expand access to technology. The first recipient is the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which advocates for your right to own your data, encrypt your communications, and use software on your own terms. Those are the same principles Specsy is built on.

More partners will be added over time, with a focus on organizations working on accessibility and digital inclusion for groups traditionally underserved by the tech industry. Quarterly transparency reports will be published showing exactly what has been donated, and to whom.

About the founder

Specsy was founded by Emily Moore, a British lawyer working in AI governance at an AI safety think tank. The origin of Specsy is a simple frustration: watching friends pay for subscription software they didn't need, couldn't own, and couldn't trust with their data. The arrival of genuinely capable AI coding assistants made it possible to do something about it.

Specsy is a personal project and is not affiliated with her employer.
